Ericsson’s 2015 Mobility Report highlights the change coming to the sector

Ericsson have just released their 2015 Mobility Report and it makes for fascinating reading. We've posted before about how it is essential that businesses are ready for the huge changes and demand coming in the next few years, and the numbers in their report confirm what we're seeing. Here's a peek at some of that data. You can find the full report here. We're already seeing big increases in data traffic but it's nothing compared to what people will be consuming in another five years.  Much of this will be driven by video which is expected to grow 55% annually through 2021.   There are more mobile subscriptions than people in the world, and twenty new subscriptions are added every second. In a report released by the White House last month, the United States government announced it considers broadband to be a ‘core utility’ on a par with electricity, sewage and water.  The report announced plans to improve and modernise broadband access for Americans over the next two years. “Access to high-speed broadband is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity.” Barack Obama The UK has its own plan to ensure everyone in the UK has at least basic broadband access by 2016, with a target of 90% of households having access to super-fast broadband by the same date. The UK has one of the highest smartphone penetration rates in the world, higher than the United States, and, along with Germany, the highest in Europe.
